After Your Round at Bangpoo Golf — Where to Eat by the Sea

Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club sits at 191 Moo 3, Tambon Phraek-Ga-Sa-Mai, on the Samut Prakan coast. It's an Arnold Palmer design from 1991 — par 72, 7,048 yards, and enough wind off the Gulf to make the back nine an honest test. When you're done, Sunspirit is 19 km away — about 18 minutes by car. That's short enough that nobody has to choose between a shower and a proper meal, and far enough that the drive itself is the wind-down: the road opens out, the mangroves start, and then the Gulf is on your right. We're open every day, 11:00 to 21:00, so a late lunch after a morning round and dinner after an afternoon one both land inside our hours.

Four hours in the sun leaves you two things: thirsty and salt-depleted. Order accordingly. Start with something sour and hot — tom yum goong, or tom yum with mixed seafood. It rehydrates better than anything cold, and the chilli wakes up an appetite that four hours of concentration has flattened. Then steamed or wok-tossed rather than deep-fried: a whole sea bass steamed with lime and garlic, prawns glazed in tamarind, squid in salted egg. Steamed rice, a plate of crispy morning glory, and that's a table. If half the group would rather have a steak and a glass of red, that isn't a compromise here. The Western kitchen is a real kitchen, not a courtesy menu. Nobody eats around anybody.

Golf groups tend to arrive all at once, hungry, at an hour nobody planned. That's fine — but a message ahead is the difference between waiting for tables to be pushed together and walking into a table already set. We have a private room for medium to small groups, and terrace seating for larger parties with the Gulf in front of them. From the club, head back toward Sukhumvit and follow the coast road west toward Bang Pu. 19 km, about 18 minutes in normal traffic — longer on a Friday evening, shorter on a Sunday morning. Parking is free and on-site, with room for around fifty cars, so a convoy with golf bags in the boots isn't a problem. We're open every day from 11:00 to 21:00. Walk-ins are welcome, but on weekends and through seagull season (roughly November to February, when Bang Pu fills up) the terrace tables go first. A message on LINE half an hour ahead is usually enough.
